Human Services Class information:

Course Overview:
This lab has been designed to allow the students to develop skills that are critical to everyday life. The lab learning units, called modules, have been developed to allow the student to explore and learn skill like critical thinking and conflict resolution, and how to set career goals and succeed in the workplace. One of the objectives of this class is to provide a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment. Therefore, we ask the student to do his or her part to make this class a wonderful learning opportunity for every student. The student should consider the lab theirs, and work daily to keep it in great condition.

Course Objectives:
All modules have a variety for text books to use for that particular module.

Study Skills:
In order for each student to gain the most from his/her learning environment he/she needs to follow these study skills daily:
*Bring all supplies to class
*Keep all papers for nine weeks
*Turn in all work legibly
*Be on time

Grading and Make-up Policy:
The following grading weights apply to all junior high classes: 60% Major Grades (Test/Major Projects, etc.) 20% Quiz Grades (Quizzes, Minor Projects, etc.) 20% Daily Grades (Homework, In-class assignments, etc.
You are assigned a Portfolio for the entire semester, which must remain in the Lab. This is your written record of all points earned during the semester.  If you are absent, make arrangements with the teacher to schedule a make-up session.

Classroom Management:(as stated in the student handbook):
All students are expected to conduct themselves in the courteous and attentive manner, following school and classroom rules. Respect for others is a requirement in the classroom. Consequences for the class disruption may include teacher/student conference, detention, parent phone call, and/or and office referral. We will follow the CISD/York JHS disciplinary policy/procedures.

Homework Policy:
All students are assigned homework whenever they are assigned to a module. Each student receives a Homework Sheet at the beginning of a rotation. Each student is required to write a summary of what he/she has mastered on the module each day. The homework must be turn in at the end of each rotation. The Homework Assignment is worth 100 points.

Modules:
The Personal & Family Development Lab consists of twelve modules. Each module is designed to be completed in a period of seven classes.

CHEATING POLICY
At York Junior High we do not tolerate cheating of any kind.

Cheating Policy:
If a child is caught cheating on an assignment, quiz, or test then the consequence will be a zero.

From the CISD Student Handbook:
Students are expected to do their own work on all assignments.  In your written work, never include another person’s wording as if it is your own.  Substituting someone else's work and considering it your own is an unethical and insufficient approach to learning and will be considered cheating.
