At York Junior High, we encourage every student to get involved in extracurricular activities. Whether it be sports, music, or clubs, there are numerous benefits to becoming part of a community and exploring a variety of interests along the way. Band

Emphasizing the highest standards of individual and ensemble music fundamentals and performance skills, the CISD Band Program will provide students with a quality, goal-centered music education while nurturing a life-long appreciation for music.

The band program has a long history of excellence, consistently earning UIL Sweepstakes ratings with their Varsity, non-Varsity, and sub-non-Varsity bands. 

The York Wind Ensemble has been a TMEA State Honor Band Finalist in 2011 and a Semi-Finalist in 2023, as well as earning national honors in the Mark of Excellence competition. 

Choir

The York Choir Program is dedicated to nurturing a life-long appreciation for music while setting the highest standards of vocal excellence. Through a focus on vocal artistry, teamwork, discipline, and commitment, our students achieve both personal fulfillment and musical success.

Our program emphasizes the development of strong individual and ensemble vocal fundamentals. With a wide range of ensembles—from beginning choirs to advanced Varsity-level groups—there is a place for every student to grow and thrive. Each ensemble is guided by a goal-centered curriculum that fosters excellence in both technique and performance.

York Choirs have a proud tradition of achievement, consistently earning Superior and Excellent ratings at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation.

The York Chamber Choir has received national acclaim, earning recognition from the Mark of Excellence Choral Honors Project as a Commended Winner in 2019 and a National Winner in 2022.


Orchestra

The CISD Orchestra Program will nurture a life-long appreciation of music. Setting the highest standards of excellence in musical skills and artistry, students will achieve success and personal fulfillment through teamwork, discipline, and commitment.

We have the Chamber varsity, Symphony non-varsity, 7th grade Philharmonic sub non-varsity, 8th grade Philharmonic  sub non-varsity, 7th grade Concert sub non-varsity, and Beginning Sinfonietta orchestra. 

The Chamber varsity orchestra has received superior ratings at UIL concert sight-reading evaluation, and superior rating at the Ann C. Roberts Orchestra Festival contest.

Career & Technical Education (CTE)

Career and Technical Education (CTE) equips students with the skills and knowledge needed for specific jobs or fields of work, offering pathways to both post-secondary education and careers, and is a growing focus in the US. 

Theater Arts

The Theatre Arts Program will foster the development of essential theatrical skills for all students through quality performance. By working cooperatively and emphasizing team building, our students will exhibit the highest ethics as critical thinkers, lifelong learners and leaders with the necessary attributes to be successful.

Visual Arts

The CISD Visual Arts Program will engage students in a challenging, nurturing environment, that inspires individual confidence, independent thinking, and creative expression based on knowledge and technical skills. Quality instruction will develop a passion for learning, fostered through an enduring relationship with the visual arts.
